Melon of Casteldidone and Viadana

A succulent and fragrant fruit, the melon is a PGI product and is one of the most representative products of this zone. A gastronomically prized item and an early fruit of the summer season, it is eaten only as a fruit or appetiser, or served with raw ham, as a remarkable delicacy. Melons are also served during the hot summer evenings, stuffed with fruit salad, or as ice creams. The regional tradition revolving around this fruit that originated from Asia Minor, is testified to by the local fairs held yearly in Casteldidone and Viadana, the main producers of this delight.
