Social Theatre

Built in 1910, the Social Theatre of Villastrada features an elegant façade in neoclassic style, with six columns and capitals in composite style supporting an entablature with reliefs of masks and ornamental friezes. At the peak of the gable is placed a statue of Terpsichore (a muse from Greek mythology, patron of dance and choral lyric), to the sides, musical instruments and four torches to symbolize the Arts. After years of intense activity the theatre fell into disuse, only to be completely renovated since 1993. the theatre, with 264 seats between stalls and boxes, has been fitted out using modern technology that allows a satellite link with theatres all over the world, to view performances and, vice versa, transmit on line, via the Internet, what is happening inside the Social Theatre for those abroad or unable to attend in person.
