Diotti Museum

The museum brings together all the Civic art collections, thus ensuring better preservation, appreciation and use for the public, also giving special attention to research, educational services and temporary exhibitions, as qualifying requirements of a modern and active museum. The Diotti Museum appears in the first instance as a museum of the nineteenth century: in this sense the need to enhance one of the most fruitful of the cultural periods in the history of the city was seen as crucial (the one between the Theresian age and the unification of Italy) and the opportunity to recover the house of Giuseppe Diotti (1779-1846), an ancient building renovated in 1837 by the architect Fermo Zuccari and intended by the master of the Carrara - who spent the last years of life there - to house his art collection and the atelier of a last great enterprise, that of the large version of the Oath of Pontida, constituting a kind of private academy frequented by local painters.
